Highways England has been awarded to an Atkins/Arup joint venture. It is a package of work with an estimated value of EUR23.04 million to design options for A303 between Amesbury and Berwick Down to take to public consultation and ultimately to find a preferred route announcement. The scheme includes a tunnel near Stonehenge and a bypass for the village of Winterbourne Stoke. Subject to statutory procedures, the proposed scheme is on target for construction work to start by April 2020.
The design team, appointed under Highways England’s Collaborative Delivery Framework (CDF), will provide technical services including highway and tunnel design, environmental and geotechnical engineering, acoustics and prepare a public consultation on options in readiness for a preferred route announcement.
