Project scope
The contract covers structural safety upgrades to the Kirchberg and Schlossberg road tunnels on the B 294 federal highway in Baden-Württemberg. Works focus on the construction of new escape and rescue infrastructure to bring the tunnels into compliance with current safety standards for road tunnels in Germany and the EU.
The scope includes:
- Construction of approximately 1,600 m of escape tunnels (Fluchtstollen)
- Excavation and fit-out of 13 emergency call niches
- Construction of 2 emergency basins (Havariebecken) for incident management
The works form part of a broader programme of safety retrofitting across the federal road tunnel network, typically involving additional evacuation routes, upgraded emergency systems and structural modifications to improve user safety in the event of fire or incidents.
