The contract is divided into 13 lots.

Scope of Works

Provision of construction supervision services during the implementation phase of the new Fehmarnsund Crossing project.

The supervision services relate to the execution of works for:

An immersed tube tunnel accommodating both rail and road traffic;
Associated land-side infrastructure and connections on the mainland and the island of Fehmarn;
Road and railway alignments extending:

To Grossenbrode (mainland, eastern Holstein);
To the north of Strukkamp (island of Fehmarn).

The project forms part of Germany’s hinterland connection to the Fehmarnbelt Fixed Link between Germany and Denmark.

Tunnel Details

Project: Fehmarnsund Tunnel (Fehmarn Sound Tunnel)

Tunnel Type: Immersed tube tunnel
Function: Combined road and railway crossing
Length of immersed section: Approximately 1.7 km – 2.2 km
Overall land-side connections:

Road infrastructure: approximately 7.8 km
Railway infrastructure: approximately 6.3 km

Configuration:

Four road lanes arranged in two separate road tubes
Two electrified railway tracks arranged in two separate rail tubes
Total of four structurally independent tunnel tubes

Approximate cross-sectional dimensions:

Width: approx. 50 m
Height: approx. 10 m

Alignment: Crossing of the Fehmarnsund to the west of the existing Fehmarnsund Bridge

The existing 1963 Fehmarnsund Bridge will be retained and refurbished for pedestrian, cyclist and local traffic use but will no longer carry rail services or heavy vehicular traffic.
