Scope of Works

Execution Contract OL42 Kolmården, forming part of the Ostlänken (East Link) programme, for the construction of approximately 15 km of new double-track railway in Norrköping municipality, County of Östergötland.

The contract comprises civil engineering works and railway systems installations (BEST works), including:

  • Construction of railway earthworks and rock cuttings;
  • Approximately 40 stormwater culverts;
  • Installation of track systems;
  • Electrical power supply (traction power);
  • Signalling systems;
  • Telecommunications systems;
  • Tunnel mechanical and electrical installations;
  • Construction supervision within the execution contract framework.

Five railway bridges and five road bridges form part of the works. Bridge structures are procured separately under a design-and-build contract.

Environmental requirements include:

  • A minimum of 30% electrification of heavy transport;
  • Use of renewable fuel (HVO100) for remaining fuel-powered operations.

Tunnel Details

Kolmården Tunnel

  • Type: Double-track railway tunnel
  • Length: Approximately 8 km
  • Configuration:
    • Two main railway tracks
    • Associated parallel service tunnel
  • Function: High-speed railway traffic as part of the Ostlänken corridor

The Kolmården Tunnel will be one of the longest railway tunnels in Sweden and constitutes the principal underground structure within Contract OL42.

Project Context – Ostlänken (East Link)

The Ostlänken is a planned 160 km double-track high-speed railway between Järna and Linköping.

  • Counties served: Stockholm, Södermanland and Östergötland
  • Municipalities: Södertälje, Trosa, Nyköping, Norrköping and Linköping
  • Design speed: Up to 250 km/h
  • Infrastructure profile: Approximately 24 km of tunnels and around 150 bridges across the full alignment
  • Planned opening: 2035

Estimated contract value:
SEK 5.70 billion (EUR 534.15 million), excluding VAT.

Duration

Contract period:
26 February 2027 – 31 December 2035

Estimated production start: August 2026.
