Astaldi, which is leading the group in the bidding for the contract, could get 42%, or EUR315.4 million, of the total value of the contract which also includes the E&M and signalling technology. Makyol has 41.33% and Gülermak has 16.77%. The Italian-Turkish consortium submitted the low bid against two rival consortia, namely Alarko-OHL (EUR753 million) and Dogu?-Yapi Merkezi-Yüksel-Siemens (EUR779.9 million). A previous tender for the project had been held two-and-a-half years ago but was cancelled, as the construction project was not feasible at the time. The line will be constructed underground but will go above ground wherever possible. The line will have 16 stops. Work is to begin in the second half of the year and last three years, once the contract signing process is concluded. The project will employ 2,000 people.
