Visit www.torno.com 15/05.A consortium of Via Ingegneria, Cooprogetti and Girpa for the design and Immobilgi Federici Stirling, DE.MO.TER. and Fondazioni Speciali-Sicos for the civil works has been awarded a EUR76 million contract to build the 3.5 km Marina di Gioiosa Jonica bypass, including three twin bored tunnels: Pantalogna (460 m / 461 m), Schiavo 1 (210 m / 170 m) and Schiavo 2 (503 m / 479 m), and the Romano false tunnel (216 m). The bored tunnels will be dug in clay and marls, using an excavator equipped with hydraulic breaker and ripper. Canopies of steel pipes will previously be drilled around the tunnel contour by forepoling. The project consists in constructing a total of 22.4 km, namely the Squillace-Simeri Crichi section (17.2 km) and a new section on trunk road SS 280 "dei Due Mari" (5.2 km). The green light to the construction project means that the worksites will be opened in the next few weeks. A total of 11 tunnels will be built. The project has a total cost of EUR652.4 million.
