The bored tunnels will be dug in clay and marls, using an excavator equipped with hydraulic breaker and ripper. The project consists in constructing a total of 22.4 km, namely the Squillace-Simeri Crichi section (17.2 km) and a new section on trunk road SS 280 "dei Due Mari" (5.2 km). The green light to the construction project means that the worksites will be opened in the next few weeks. A total of 11 tunnels will be built. The project has a total cost of EUR652.4 million.
