Arriyadh Development Authority (ADA) invites international consortia to prequalify, deadline 20.06.2012, for a turnkey contract to design, build and equip Phase 1 of the Riyadh light metro, with an option to maintain the three-lines 92 km-long network. Design has so far only been completed for lines 1 and 2, which have an estimated cost of EUR3.6 billion.

Companies that prequalify will be invited to bid on 20.07.2012, with submissions due by end-October. ADA plans to award the contract in mid-January 2013, and the first section of the light metro must open by the end of 2016. The metro will include a mixture of underground, at grade and elevated construction. Line 1 will be 24 km-long, Line 2 will be 26 km-long, and Line 3 will be 42 km-long. The Arriyadh Development Authority (ADA) awarded to three international consortia the design and build contracts for the Riyadh Public Transport Project (RPTP), involving 6 electric driverless lines with a total length of 176 km and 85 stations.

The ArRiyadh New Mobility (ANM) consortium awarded the construction of the Line 3 (red) in Riyadh, including two large stations landmark "Qasr Al Hokom" and "Western Station". The line will run 40.7 km from Madina Al Munawara to Amir Saad bin Abdul Rahman Al Awal Road. The winning consortium is formed by Salini-Impregilo (Italy), Larsen & Toubro (India) and Nesma (Saudi Arabia) for the civil works, Ansaldo STS (Italy) for the technological part and Bombardier (Canada) for the supply of vehicles. The contract is valued at EUR 3.9 billion (USD5,211,926,731).

The BACS consortium, headed by Bechtel (USA) and including Almabani General Contractors (Saudi Arabia), Consolidated Contractors Company, and Siemens (Germany) will be responsible for the design, construction, train cars, signalling, electrification and integration of Line 1 and Line 2 with a total distance of 63.3 km. Line 1 (blue) will run north to south across Riyadh from Olaya to Batha Corridor and Line 2 (green) will run east to west along King Abdullah Road. The contract is valued at EUR 7.1 billion (USD9,447,067,500).

The FAST consortium, leaded by FCC Construccion (Spain) and including Samsung (Korea), Alstom (France), Strukton (The Netherlands), Freyssinet Saudi Arabia and engineering companies Typsa (Spain) and Setec (France) will deliver Line 4 (orange), Line 5 (yellow) and Line 6 (purple) that covers a total distance of 72.5 km. The consortium will use three TBMs to build tunnels almost 10 m in diameter for the three lines. The contract is valued at EUR 5.9 billion (USD7,819,320,950).

The Arriyadh Development Authority (ADA) in Saudi Arabia has announced the two winning international consortia who will oversee the design and construction of Riyadh's new metro system. The metro network features six lines with a total length of approximately 176 km and driverless trains.

Riyadh Metro Transit Consultants, a JV between US firm Parsons and French firms Egis and Systra, has been awarded the first project and construction management contract.

RMTC will be responsible for managing metro lines 1, 2 and 3. These lines will be designed and built by the BACS and Arriyadh New Mobility group consortia. Value of contract EUR420 million.

Riyadh Advanced Metro Project Execution and Delivery (RAMPED), a JV between Louis Berger and Hill International, was awarded the second contract to manage metro lines 4, 5 and 6. The Royal Commission for Riyadh City (RCRC) has awarded the consortium comprising Webuild (leader), L&T (India), NESMA (Saudi Arabia) and ALSTOM (France) the EUR 2.33 billion (USD 2.75 billion) contract for the design and construction of 8.4 km of new alignment on the driverless Red Line of the Riyadh Metro: 1.3 km on viaduct and 7.1 km in tunnel excavated using TBMs.

The extension also includes all signalling systems and five stations, three of them underground: two stations will serve King Saud University, one will serve the medical city and medical faculties, and another will serve the university atrium. Three additional stations will be located in Diriyah, one of which is planned as a future interchange with Line 7. Completion is expected in approximately six years.

Scope of Works

Design and construction of Riyadh Metro Line 7, forming part of Phase 2 of the city’s metro expansion programme. Official bids for the project were received on 31 January 2026, and evaluation is currently underway.

Project Context

Line 7 represents a major new corridor within the Riyadh Metro network, supporting long-term urban development and mobility objectives. The tender follows the completion of the initial six-line network, including the opening of Line 3 (Orange Line) in January 2025. Upon completion of Phase 2, the total metro network length will exceed 240 km.
