Arriyadh Development Authority (ADA) invites international consortia to prequalify, deadline 20.06.2012, for a turnkey contract to design, build and equip Phase 1 of the Riyadh light metro, with an option to maintain the three-lines 92 km-long network. Design has so far only been completed for lines 1 and 2, which have an estimated cost of EUR3.6 billion.
Companies that prequalify will be invited to bid on 20.07.2012, with submissions due by end-October. ADA plans to award the contract in mid-January 2013, and the first section of the light metro must open by the end of 2016. The metro will include a mixture of underground, at grade and elevated construction. Line 1 will be 24 km-long, Line 2 will be 26 km-long, and Line 3 will be 42 km-long. Phase 2 will add another three lines to the network, but their alignment has not yet been defined. Prequalification application forms available by e-mail from metro@arriyadh.net.
