This Autumn the company SMU Engeocom from Moscow completed two tunnels for the third interchange (second circle line) of the Moscow metro, using two Robbins EPB TBMs. On 24.10.2015 the TBM Victoria completed 2449 m of the tunnel, between the Khoroshevskaya and Shelepih stations, whose construction had began in November 2014. The TBM reached a maximum 54 m depth, through flooded sand, limestone and clay.
On 25.09.2015 the TBM Sofia completed the west tunnel between the same stations. Five stations of the second circle line are scheduled to be opened in 2016, the sixth by the end of 2017.
The new interchange will become the second largest circle line of the Moscow metro. By 2020 the 61 km third interchange will connect the Moscow’s suburbs with 28 stations.
