Back in December the first TBM EPB - diameter 9.28 m - to be involved in the construction of the Enna-Dittaino section (Lot4B) for the Palermo-Catania railway, successfully passed its final tests.
CRCHI is going to provide 7 TBM EPBs, with diameters of 9.3 m, for the Palermo-Catania railway project: one will drive 12.4 km for Lot 2; two will drive 13.4 km in total for 4B; one will drive 7.5 km for Lot 4A; three will drive 20.5 km totally for Lot 3.
The project, which will help make connections between the two Sicilian cities faster, safer and more punctual, will make it possible to travel from Palermo to Catania in less than two hours. Progressive travel time reductions are expected even before the end of all works, however, this is due to the phased activation of the new line sections. The planned interventions will also ensure the speeding up of connections and the increase of regularity and punctuality of trains. The construction of the entire Palermo-Catania-Messina project will improve interconnections between all inland areas of Sicily. Click
