Renny, the last West End Connectors’s TBM on the Eglinton Crosstown West Extension (ECWE) project, has officially completed its 6.3-km journey from Renforth Drive to the extraction shaft, just west of Scarlett Road and Eglinton Avenue West: click here for the video.
West End Connectors - selected in 2021 to design, build and finance the project - is a consortium comprised of Aecon (40%), Dragados Canada Inc. (40%) and Ghella (20%). This major milestone marks the completion for tunnelling on this scope of the project as both TBMs Rexy and Renny have reached their finish line.
The ECWE project is a 9.2-km extension of the Eglinton Crosstown light rail transit project. The extension will run from the future Mount Dennis station to Renforth Drive. The system will have connections to several local and regional transit services, including Union Pearson Express and Kitchener GO train lines, GO bus routes, and local TTC and Mississauga MiWay bus services. Plans are also being explored to connect ECWE to Toronto Pearson International Airport.
