At the end of July, the ATCOST 21 Consortium (Porr Bau GmbH
Tunnelbau, G. Hinteregger & Soehne Baugesellschaft mbH, Oestu - Stettin
Hoch - und Tiefbau GmbH, Swietelsky Baugesellschaft mbH) and the TBM Suse
(diameter 10.82 m) completed the western tube of the Filder tunnel
(double-tube, 9.5 km long) on the Stuttgart-Ulm line. The 2,000-tonne,
120-metre-long TBM will now be dismantled in several parts and turned
underground into a specially built underground cavern. From autumn 2018,
excavation work will begin on the remaining 3.4 km section of the eastern tube.
The Filder tunnel is the longest tunnel on the new line
between Stuttgart and Ulm, which will connect the new main station with the
Filder plain. The journey time between Stuttgart and Ulm will be almost halved. For further information click de/22 for the tunnelbuilder archive. Go to
