Extensions to the Heathrow Express and the Piccadilly Line to Heathrow Airport have been approved by UK secretary of state for transport Stephen Byers. The Heathrow Express and the Piccadilly Line will be extended from the present Central Terminal Area at Heathrow to the proposed Terminal 5. Two 3.4 km single-track tunnels will be constructed for the Heathrow Express extension and two 3.5 km single-track tunnels will be built for the Piccadilly Line extension. A new underground people mover will link the new terminal building with satellite buildings.
