On Tuesday, October 2nd , the Metropolitan Public Company Metro de
Quito informed the public that the TBM Luz de America reached the El Arbolito
extraction shaft, completing the Quito Metro tunnel.
The TBM Luz de America began its work on April 5th
, 2017, from the Solanda Station, and passed through the Historical Center of
Quito, without causing any damage to the city's heritage. The TBM ended its
drive in the El Arbolito shaft after 9071 m and 6045 rings installed. Its average
has been more than 1,500 m/1 month. Its twin sister, the TBM La Guaragua, has
been averaging 1,100 m in the same period of time. The three TBMs La Guaragua,
Luz de America and Carolina have now completed the 22km tunnel of the Quito
Metro Line 1. The TBM Luz de America
will be dismantled and extracted from the shaft, 25 m deep and 28 m in diameter.
The progress of work for the project is at 75%. Click here
