On the 27.08.2018 the TBM ‘Luz de America’ reached the La
Alameda Station, Line 1 of the Quito Metro. The TBM, started excavating from
the Solanda Station in April 2017, and has driven 8.4 km of tunnels under the
Historic Centre of the city without causing any damage to its archaeology or
historic buildings.
The latest section that has been built includes the stations
of Cardenal de la Torre, El Recreo, Magdalena, San Francisco and La Alameda. Once
it has started operating La Alameda Station will be used by over 48 thousand people.
The TBM Luz de America will stay in the La Alameda Station for about 15 days
for maintenance and any repairs. The TBM will then move towards the El Arbolito
extraction pit, where it will finish its work,
The TBM ‘La Guaragua’ has also reached the El Arbolito
extraction pit, having excavated 6,977 m
of tunnel, between El Labrador and El Ejido stations. The route included the
stations of Jipijapa, Inaquito, La Carolina, La Pradera, Universidad Central
and El Ejido.
Earlier in June 2018 the TBM Carolina arrived at the
Quitumbe Station after having excavated 3.6 km of tunnels.
