On 27.02.2016 Uzbekistan Railways in conjunction with China Railway Tunnel Group completed tunneling works on the main trunk of the 19.1 km tunnel under the Kamchik pass in Uzbekistan. The tunnel has been built by China Railway Tunnel Group at cost of EUR415.53 million (USD455million), with local companies SPMS-1, Mostootryad-67, PDM Bukhara, Gidrospecstry, Shahtostroy, Husan kon Mukhandis, SUV-75 and ToshSUBVR as subcontractors. DB International provided supervision for the tunnel construction works, planning functions and the inspection of construction material deliveries.
Now constructors will start laying the steel web and other communications inside the tunnel. Uzbekistan Railways plans to run the first test train through the tunnel on the 15.04.2016.
The Kamchik tunnel is part of the new 123.1 km Angren-Pap single track electrified railway whose total value is EUR 1.49 billion (USD 1.63 billion), funded by the Government of Uzbekistan (66.63%), China Export Import Bank (21.43%) and IBRD Loan (11.94%).
