The consortium Poyry, ILF Beratende Ingenieure GmbH, Obermeyer Planen + Beraten, and Tedi South secured a contract to provide services for the design, tender documentation and site supervision phases for Line 2 of the Ho Chi Minh City Metro. The project will start in February 2012, and the duration of the design and tender documentation phase will be 18 months. The site supervision phase will last an additional 5 years. Cavico Corp. announced that Cavico Transportation, its wholly owned subsidiary, has signed a contract, estimated to be approximately USD9.43 million, for tunnel construction at Huoi Quang hydropower plant. The total length of tunnel is 9,895.89 metres. Its external diameter is 9 m and the internal diameter equals 7.5 m. The geology is porphyric rock and rhyolite. The planned method of excavation is drill and blast and conventional excavator equipped with bucket. The planned techniques for support and lining are wire mesh, rock bolts, sprayed concrete with concrete admixtures and steel arches. The planned technique for transportation of excavated rock is loaders and dumper trucks. Cavico Transportation has initiated the process of transporting both equipment and personnel to the site. The expected date for start of excavation works is April 2008. The engineering consultancy supervising the works is Power Engineering Consulting Company No 1 (PECC1). Cavico Corp. has been awarded an USD11.3 million contract to construct the headrace tunnel at the Dambri hydropower plant. The tunnel, which will connect the water intake and the pressure shaft, will be approximately 5 km long with a diameter of 3.66 to 4.30 m. Cavico plans to begin work on the tunnel by the end of this month. The Dambri hydropower plant is located 140 km northeast of Ho Chi Minh City in Da Huoai village, near Da Teh city in Lam Dong province. Owned by South Hydropower Joint Stock Company, the USD80 million plant will have a 75 MW capacity. The latest contract with Southern Hydropower Joint Stock Company is to construct a 3.2 km-long and 3.66 m to 4.30 m-wide section of the headrace tunnel. This brings Cavico's total awards at the Dambri hydropower plant to an estimated USD34.3 million, further to the USD11.3 million contract for the first section of the headrace tunnel announced in early January 2008 and a USD3.75 million contract to build the access and service road in July 2007. Cavico has been awarded contracts valued at USD11 million to construct a headrace tunnel and surge tank for the Dak My 4 hydropower plant project. The tunnel, which will connect the water intake and the pressure shaft, will be approximately 3.9 km long, with a diameter of 6.40 m to 7.60 m. The surge tank, intended to neutralize sudden pressure surges, will be approximately 89 m high and have a diameter between 5 and 8.50 m. The Dak My 4 hydropower plant is located 177 km west of Da Nang city in Phuoc Son village, Quang Nam province. The plant will have a 210 MW capacity. Systra signed two contracts worth EUR36 million with the Hanoi Metropolitan Rail Transport Project Board (HRB) for Hanoi's first metro line, estimated at EUR500 million. Lead consultant, Systra will be responsible for the design studies, preparation of the tender documents, bid assessment, supervision of construction and rolling stock production and assistance to the commissioning and operation. Systra already carried out the feasibility and planning studies. Tenders for construction are expected to be invited in 2008 for opening in October 2010 for the city's millenium. Line 1, for which Systra already undertook the feasibility and planning studies, stretches for 12.5 km going from Nhon (depot and workshop) to the railway station. Cavico Corp has been awarded a contract to build a 1 km-long 10 m-wide headrace tunnel valued at USD12.5 million for the Song Tranh 2 hydropower project. Construction is expected to take 20 months to complete. After signing the contract, Cavico Vietnam plans to assign the work to its wholly owned subsidiary Cavico Bridge and Tunnel. The project, which has an investment value of USD260 million, is located in Bac Tra My city, Quang Nam province, approximately 70 km west of Da Nang city.
