Project Scope
Contract awarded for construction management and oversight of the Newtown Creek combined sewer overflow (CSO) tunnel programme. The scope covers supervision of major underground works forming part of New York City’s long-term wastewater and environmental improvement strategy.

The project includes construction oversight of a deep rock tunnel system and associated infrastructure designed to intercept, store and convey combined sewer overflows during storm events. Key elements comprise a large-diameter storage tunnel, a dewatering pump station, and multiple connection structures linking to the existing wastewater treatment network serving Brooklyn and Queens.

The scheme is part of a wider programme to reduce pollution into Newtown Creek, a designated Superfund site, and to enhance resilience of the city’s ageing sewer system under increasing rainfall and regulatory requirements.
