Unusual 423 m-long rail tunnel to carry Burlington Northern trains beneath the new North Spokane Corridor freeway between US 395 and I-90 awarded earlier this year to Scarsella Brothers of Seattle at USD17.29 million is underway for completion mid-2009. Tunnel comprises 444 precast concrete arch sections to provide 17.2 m width, enough to accommodate a future second set of tracks.
