Transport for London (TfL) has launched the second phase of a public consultation, deadline 01.02.2013, on a proposed package of new Thames crossings in east and southeast London, which includes the Silvertown tunnel, a road tunnel running between the Greenwich Peninsula and Silvertown, and the Gallions Reach Ferry, a new vehicle ferry running between Thamesmead and Beckton.
TfL received nearly 4,000 responses to the initial consultation, which started on 06.02.2012 and ended on 05.03.2012. Over 80 percent of respondents supported the Silvertown Tunnel, and over 60 percent supported the Gallions Reach Ferry.
Subject to planning permission and funding, the earliest opening date for the proposed river crossings are 2017 for the Gallions Reach Ferry and 2021 for the Silvertown Tunnel. For more contact rivercrossings@tfl.gov.uk and visit https://consultations.tfl.gov.uk/rivercrossings/consultation. 45/12.
