The Ekran Company which was the client and major shareholder has been displaced by the Malaysian government who will carry on the river diversion works until new sponsors are found. April 1998.
Contractor Dong Ah reports it is three months ahead of schedule on the 1.4 km-long x 12 m-diameter Batang Balui river diversion tunnels, of which two have already broken through and the third is nearly completed. Concrete lining will commence shortly with a view to handover in January, 2000. Clients are Tenaga Nasional Bhd and Sarawak Electricity Supply Corporation. June 2000.
