The NCC-JKIL Joint Venture, a collaboration between leading construction companies NCC Limited and J Kumar Infraprojects Limited (JKIL), secured the EUR700,82 million (INR63.0 bn) contract for design and construction of a 4.7km twin tunnel for the 12.2km Goregaon Mulund Link Road (GMLR) project. The Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM) is implementing GMLR Project for providing a connectivity of the Eastern Express Highway and Western Express highway to relieve the traffic congestion in Mumbai. The underground section (Phase III) of the project will be built using 2 TBMs with a 13 m diameter. The cut & cover method will be utilized for constructing a 1.6 km box-tunnel near Film City. BMC (Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation) had re-invited tenders for the tunnels’ construction in October 2022 with a Rs. 6,237 crore estimate.
