The length is 3,260 m for two tunnel tubes, outer diameter 8.2 m and inner diameter 7.3 m. Two TBMs will be used. The six stations will be constructed using mining advance techniques. The line route involves driveage under buildings of historic significance in Cologne's old city centre. The ground will consequently need to be stabilised using techniques such as high pressure injection and freezing. Work will start in early 2004. The new underground railway is due to open in 2010.
