Two powerhouse caverns: 21.5 m wide x 40 m high x 60.5 m long; and 17.4 m wide x 13.4 m high x 47 m long. This should take until mid-November, after which the tunnel will be inspected. The project has been held up since 9th June, 2000 when pressurized water and mud started to invade the tunnel while jet grouting was under way. Immediately, settlements affected the Praí§a do Comércio area and traffic was cut to heavy vehicles. Evacuation of the personnel was ordered. The 800 m tunnel was sealed between the Arsenal and Santa Apolí³nia shafts. As water ingress continued to flood the tunnel, it was decided to flood it completely to avoid soil liquefaction and further damage to surface buildings. Further studies were ordered and the project was altered. A team of Dutch specialists has been hired to help resume the project. Work completion has been set for end-2003. Metropaí§o, a consortium including Teixeira Duarte, Opca and Mota & Companhia, is responsible for construction. 37/02.The ACE JV formed by Somague, BPC, Engil, Spie and SBES will be using a refurbished Lovat EPB TBM to construct a 1.5 km Red Line extension, running east to west between Alameda and Sao Sebastiao. The extension will intersect the Yellow Line in Saldanha and the Blue Line in Sao Sebastiao. The TBM, which previously excavated the Alameda-Oriente section on the Red Line and the Ameixoeira-Campo Grande section on the Yellow Line, commenced its job on 26th October, 2004 from a 35 m-long start box at Alameda station. As per design, the excavation method is NATM. Bidders can propose the TBM method. If NATM method, the support will be bolts, wire mesh, steel arches, shotcrete and final concrete formwork. The machinery to be used will be proposed by the bidders. The other underground structures within the project are Moscavide, Aeroporto and Encarnaí§í£o stations, designed for a 105 m platform. None of the seven bidders for the restricted invitation to tender, deadline 09/03/2020, submitted valid proposals for the construction of the Praça da Liberdade/ Plaza de la Libertad - Casa da Musica section of the Porto circle line. In most cases the base value of the contracts was exceeded. As a result, Metro do Porto asked the Government to increase its budget. The Council of Ministers approved a Resolution that reinforces the budget foreseen for the expansion works of the Metro do Porto network.

The two following consortium's submitted to Metro do Porto their offers for a contract to undertake civil works on the 6.3km Ruby Line H, which will run from Casa da Música to Santo Ovídio: consortium composed of  Alberto Couto Alves, FCC Construccion SA e Contratas y Ventas SAU, and consortium of Casais Engenharia &  Construcao SA, Conduril Engenharia SA, Teixeira Duarte Engenharia & Construce SA, Alves Ribeiro SA and Somafel Engenharia & Obras Ferroviárias SA. 

The two offers will now be evaluated by the tender committee in order to prepare a report and recommend a preferred bidder to the Metro do Porto, aiming to start construction by the end of 2023 in order for inaugurate the Ruby Line  in 2026. Hotchief Solutions Middle East Qatar, Al Sraiya Strabag for Roads and Infrastructure and Petroserv Ltd signed the EUR256 million contract (QR1,065,765,88) for design and construction of the central section of the new sewerage network under the capital of Qatar. The client is the Public Works Authority (ASHGHAL).

The construction contract is part of an extensive refurbishment and expansion of the overloaded sewerage system in the historic south of Doha. The system, which serves an area of 680 sq km, is required as the result of rapid population growth. The overall project includes several smaller connections to the existing sewer system.
For constructing the 14.7 km-long tunnel, two TBMs will be used. After installation of the tunnel outer shell an inner lining will be added to protect the concrete from aggressive gases by means of an HDPE membrane, thus ensuring a project life of 100 years. The sewer tunnel will have an interior diameter of 4.5 m. In addition to the tunnel, shafts up to 45 m-deep will be built, some of which will serve as connectors to other IDRIS construction contracts. The joint venture is responsible for the execution planning for this demanding project which is scheduled to be completed by the beginning of 2019, a construction period of 45 months. The Qatar Public Works Authority has awarded two contracts for the design and construction of two sewage tunnels in Doha to Bouygues Travaux Publics (a subsidiary of Bouygues Construction), in partnership with a local contractor UrbaCon Trading & Contracting. The two contracts are worth approximately €550 million.

The north section (MTS01) will be 16 km long and 3 m wide. The south section (MTS03) will be 14 km long and 4.5 m wide. End of work is scheduled for 2019. These contracts are part of the strategic project for sewage collection, pumping and treatment services in the south of Doha, known as “IDRIS” (Inner Doha Resewerage Implementation Strategy). The Doha Metro is part of the EUR27bn Qatar Integrated Rail Programme (QIRP), which also includes: the EUR2.13 bn Lusail City LRT, 38.8 km with 36 stations to be completed in 2016; the EUR2.1 bn West Bay people-mover, a 10 km dual-track, single-bore tunnel with 19 underground stations, linking the new Doha Convention Centre with the West Bay area; a high-speed passenger line; and a 340 km freight rail line.

Qatar Railways Company signed five contracts at a total cost of EUR314 million to signal the beginning of the phase 1 of the state’s integrated railways project within the first quarter of 2013.The Qatar integrated railways project will incorporate a metro system and a long-distance passenger travel and freight transport network.

The US firm Jacobs Engineering Group secured the contract to manage the metro's Red Line; the consortium Louis Berger (USA)/Egis Rail (France) secured the contract to manage the Gold Line and main stations; and Hill International Company has received a four-year EUR9.7 million contract to provide project management services in connection with construction of the Green Line/Phase 1; Porr (Austria)-Saudi Binladin Group (SBG)-HBK Contracting (local) consortium won a EUR61 million contract to provide site facilities, civil structures and remove utilities in preparation for the tunnelling and major stations packages; and Britain's Lloyd's Register won a contract for independent safety assessment worth EUR11.7 m.

Phase 1 of the QIRP involves construction of 76.3 km including 53.3 km of underground lines in single bore tunnels and 26 stations, expected to be complete by October 2019 and to be operational for FIFA World Cup 2022. The JV composed of Greece’s Aktor SA (32 percent), India’s Larsen &Toubro, Turkey’s Yapi Merkezi (Yapi Merkezi Insaat ve Sanayi Anonim Sirketi) and STFA (Sezai Turkes Feyzi Akkaya Marine Construction) and Qatar’s Al Jaber Engineering signed the EUR3.2 billion contract (RTC/040/2012) for the design and construction of the project “Gold Line Underground” in Doha, Qatar. Gold Line will traverses Doha from east to west and will connect the airport’s northern part with Souq Waqif, Msheireb, Bin Mahmoud, Al Sadd and Al Waab. The project includes 32km of 6 m-diameter bored tunnelling lined with approximately 128,000 segments, six TBMs utilized simultaneously, 13 underground stations fitted out with high-end finishes and state of the art mechanical, engineering and plumbing (MEP) systems, 2.5 million cu m of excavations for the stations and one million cu m of concreting. Qatar’s Public Works Authority (Ashghal) assigned to Fluor Corporation a EUR140 million (USD185 million) contract to provide program management and construction supervision services for the approximately EUR3.75 billion (USD5 billion) Sharq Crossing programme – previously referred to as the Doha Bay Crossing programme. The project will traverse Doha Bay and will comprise bridge sections interconnected by an immersed tube tunnel to create a new passageway beneath the waters of Doha Bay.
