Der Tunnel Rottenmann befindet sich an der A9 Pyhrn Autobahn im Bezirk Liezen,Ortsteil Rottenmann, auf Autobahnkilometer km 75,45 – km 75,85. Der Tunnel wurdeum 1989 in offener Bauweise als doppeltes Rechteckprofil mit Rippendecke hergestellt.Über dem Tunnel liegt eine Verbindungsstraße, welche die Burgtorsiedlung mit demOrtskern verbindet und weiters Versorgungs- und Entsorgungsleitungen derselbigenSiedlung.Im Zuge der vorgesehenen Baumaßnahmen sollen schadhafte Teile des Tunnelssaniert und Anpassungen an den Stand der Technik vorgenommen werden. Neben denArbeiten am Tunnel selbst, sollen auch die Portale und die verkehrstechnischenEinrichtungen an den Stand der Technik angepasst werden.

Vomp exploration drive will be utilised as the escape route from the main tunnel. A 150 m access drive has been completed towards the centre of the alignment from where contractor Jager is driving east and west in loose material. Geology is terrible in the east drive where umbrella drilling is necessary using an Atlas Copco 352 drillrig and pregrouting is being carried out to stem the water ingress. The east drive had advanced 400 m when a 50 m-high collapse occurred two weeks ago. West drive is in better conditions and has advanced 700 m to date. The bidding consortium H41 Sill Gorge-Pfons comprising the companies Implenia Österreich GmbH, Implenia Schweiz AG, Webuild S.p.A with its Swiss subsidiary, CSC costruzioni SA secured the EUR651 million contract for Lot H41 Gola del Sill-Pfons of the Brenner Base Tunnel project .
The Lot H41 is a section of the Brenner Base Tunnel in Austria and consists of the construction of the railway from Gola del Sill near the city of Innsbruck in the north to the town of Pfons located further south. The contract includes both the traditional method of excavation for the two parallel tunnels for approximately 7.3 km, including auxiliary tunnels as well as the mechanised method of excavation for another 16.5 km, in addition to the lining of the walls of completed tunnels, an underground emergency stop at Innsbruck, access tunnels, exploratory tunnels and parts of other secondary tunnels.
The mechanised method will deploy two TBMs (10 m diameter). The design of the project focuses on the environmental sustainability of the project during construction: the logistics of the work sites are designed to reduce travel times for the transport of materials, and measures to reduce dust and noise are foreseen.
The Brenner Base Tunnel will be crucial for Europe. It will be a key part of the Scandinavian-Mediterranean Corridor of the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T) that will connect Helsinki in Finland and La Valletta in Malta. It also plays an important role in connecting Italy and Austria with a high-speed/high-capacity railway.
