Wirth-NFM Group To Build TBM for Pajares Tunnel in Spain - es/55The FCC / Necso JV has placed an order with the Wirth-NFM Technologies Group for one TBM to be used to drive one of the two parallel tunnels on Contract 1 of the Pajares tunnels. The 170 m-long 1,950-tonne machine is a 9.93 m-diameter single-shield hard rock open mode TBM. The total installed power reaches 8,100 kVA (14 x 350 kW), for a nominal thrust of 144,000 kN. Twenty-six cylinders will equip th emachine. The cutterhead nominal torque is 21,000 kNm and the cutterhead rotation speed is 0-6 rpm. The TBM will be delivered at spring 2005.The project of a high speed railway to connect Castilla and Leon to Asturias includes the excavation of a 24,535 m-long twin-bore tunnel under Pajares Pass from Telledo to Pola de Gordon.
