On the 15/12/2022 Sudarshan 8.1, the Terratec TBM EPB S88, reached the Meerut Central RRTS Station completing the 1823.39 m long tunnel between Bhainsali to Meerut Central Stations (Package 8). It’s the first tunnel breakthrough for the machine,  launched in March 2022. The TBM S88 will now be dismantled, taken back to Bhaisali, and relaunched to build a 1 km tunnel towards Begumpul.  

Afcons Infrastructure secured the EUR 173.59 million (INR15.29bn) contract for Package 8 in November 2020 with a 1310-day (3.6 year) deadline. The contract includes the construction of six twin tunnels from Brahampuri DN Ramp to Begumpul UP Ramp with 3 underground stations (Meerut Central, Bhaisali & Begumpul) built by using the cut & cover method.   

Back in October Afcons Infrastructure made its first breakthrough for Package 8 with Terratec TBM S90, named Sudharshan 8.3: the machine completed the 750 m section from Begumpul UP Ramp located at Gandhi Park and Begumpul Station.
