Tendering process resumes for Alpine tunnels The Intergovernmental Committee for the improvement of the links in the Southern Alps (CIG) held on 31.01.2011 in Paris has unlocked the tender procedures, started in June 2009, for work in the Colle di Tenda tunnels. The project required an investment of around EUR209 million, of which EUR176 million is for works, funded 58 percent by Italy and 42 percent by France. Construction start is scheduled for early 2012 on a new 3.3 km tunnel for traffic to France, and the widening of the existing tunnel for traffic to Italy. To accelerate the benefits and reduce the inconvenience to drivers, the new tube will be opened for bi-directional traffic while the old tube is refurbished.
