Strata Worldwide has launched a new leaky feeder solution for underground construction. The DigitalBRIDGE Plus+ delivers powerful, high-speed Ethernet and a full spectrum of VHF radio frequencies across a single cable.

Strata Worldwide, global leader in underground safety and communications, has unveiled DigitalBRIDGE Plus+, a new solution to improve existing leaky feeder systems by digitising the network and expanding connectivity capacity in the mining and tunnelling industries.

The solution, produced through an established partnership with Australian-based RFI Technology Solutions, enables operations to upgrade their existing leaky feeder systems to achieve digital high-speed Ethernet capabilities without losing VHF (Very High Frequency) voice communications.

Characterised by tough working conditions and hazardous environments, underground construction sites require reliable 24/7 communication systems throughout the infrastructure to ensure smooth operations and optimised safety. Leaky feeder systems are often an important part of keeping two-way communication channels available at all times.

DigitalBRIDGE Plus+ takes typical leaky feeder solutions one step further. Strata’s bi-directional line amplifiers (BDA) with Ethernet means operations can interface with existing fibre networks to inject high-speed Ethernet data over their leaky feeder network. Ethernet end-point devices with a local power source can then be directly connected to the line amp for network connectivity, or DigitalBRIDGE™ Quadports can be placed anywhere along the cable to provide four (4) Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) ports for the attachment and powering of the Ethernet devices. These include Wi-Fi and LTE/4G access points, IP cameras, gas monitors, RFID readers and more.
