Shetlands tunnel manager appointmentThe Shetland Islands Council in the north of Scotland is appointing a senior manager to oversee plans for four subsea tunnels over the next 20 years. The islands of Unst, Whalsay, Bressay and Yell are in dire need of fixed links with the mainland to avoid depopulation. The scheme as presented is costed at EUR384 million, most of which will have to be EU funded. The Whalsay tunnel is seen as the most immediate, at a projected cost of EUR96 million, followed by the Bressay tunnel at EUR41 million. More from
