Sandvik Tamrock Wins Order for Tunnelling Jumbos - cn/61Sandvik Tamrock has signed a supply contract with the Leighton-Kumagai JV to deliver five new Tamrock Axera tunnelling jumbos for Route 8 highway in Hong Kong, including the Eagle's Nest tunnel. The project consists of twin 2.1 km, three lane tunnels and a 400 m ventilation adit.The first unit is an Axera T08S-290C, a two-boom jumbo with basket boom and Tamrock Computer Aided Drilling (TCAD) instrumentation. This unit will be used at the ventilation adit and was delivered at the beginning of April 2004. The other four machines are all Axera T12DATA-315 three-boom fully computerized jumbos with basket boom. These units will be used in the main tunnel with two units drilling side-by-side for the 148.4 sq m standard cross section and 169.9 sq m widened cross section. Deliveries to the site commenced in mid-April and will be spread out until the beginning of June. Ten orders from the Far East and China were placed with Sandvik Tamrock for fully computerized DATA jumbos during the first quarter of 2004. For tunnelling from the north portal, Cat 988G and Terex ADT 35-tonne dump trucks will be used. At the south portal, Cat 980GII and Terex ADT 35-tonne dump trucks will be used. For tunnelling from the ventilation adit, a 6 cu m Toro 500 LHD will be used. Support and back-up units will be Cat 972 and 966 wheel loaders. More in E-News Weekly 22/2004.
