In 2009, Consortium Galleria di Roveredo, comprising CSC SA (Lugano), Frutiger AG (Thun) and Prader Losinger SA (Sion), secured the contract for construction of the monotube 2,391 m-long San Fedele tunnel and its parallel safety tunnel on the new 5.7 km-long Roveredo bypass. The 100 sq m tunnel is being excavated from south to north, with seven larger-section 15 m-long bypasses. The parallel safety tunnel is 4 m-diameter.
A pilot tunnel was driven in the first half of 2011 by a 4 m-diameter single shield Robbins TBM 1016-278 owned by Hinterregger, at an average 20.78 m/day. The TBM holed at Val Gugia portal, turned around, and then excavated 2,046.8 m of the safety tunnel at an average 20.88 m/day.
Pilot bore enlargement to full section commenced early-2011 using a Sandvik DT1130i three-boom jumbo. At 31.01.2012 the main tunnel excavation had reached 1,108.5 m of 2,085.4 m (53.2%), with an average advance of 5.54 m/day. Completion is predicted for October-November, 2012.
TBM mucking-out was by loco and wagons. Caterpillar and Liebherr loaders and CVS and Volvo dumpers are being employed for the conventional work. For more click here and ch/61. Visit www.astra.admin.ch/autobahnschweiz/01365/01367/01376/index.html?lang=it and www.toscano.ch. 08/12.
