On 17.02.2012, breakthrough of the 980 m south tube was achieved on the SS77 La Rocchetta tunnel in Muccia municipality on Marche-Umbria quadrilateral in Italy. Excavation took one year. The 840 m north tube broke through six months ago. The general contractor is Val di Chienti, a JV comprising Strabag, CMC, Grandi Lavori Fincosit and Consorzio Stabile.
Of the fourteen rock tunnels along the Foligno- Pontelatrave section, La Franca, La Palude and Belfiore in Umbria are complete, along with La Rocchetta, Serravalle, Bavareto and Maddalena in Marche region. Five of the remaining tunnels are longer than 2 km, the longest being the 3.4 km Varano tunnel in Serravalle del Chienti municipality. Work on the section should be complete end-2013. Click
