Rates of 235 m/week and 841.8 m/month have been reached in less than perfect ground, beating the long-standing Chicago TARP world records for the 10-11 m-diameter class. The parallel 16.6 km twin tubes of the tunnel are 40 m apart, sometimes 1,400 m deep, and form a crucial component of the 820 km Lanzhou-Chongqing line.
