Press release - Femern A/S plans to retain the tunnel element factory at Rodbyhavn

30/06/2023

When the production of the tunnel elements for the Fehmarn Belt construction is completed, the element factory at Rodbyhavn on Lolland is scheduled to be demolished. Together with the working harbor and a number of associated facilities, the element factory forms a large, unified production area east of Rodbyhavn.

Preservation of the production area is investigated in accordance with Infrastructure Plan 2035, from which it appears that Sund & Bælt has requested to investigate preservation of the element factory.

Femern A/S, a subsidiary of Sund & Bælt, has completed the EIA - Environmental Impact Assessment and the report has been sent out for public consultation in the period 23/6-18/8 2023. Read the summary report and the overall report for the EIA .

The environmental impact assessment deals with the environmental effects of preserving the segments factory, and the sustainability of preserving the large segments factory with associated working port, which will be able to ensure the cheapening of future infrastructure projects and jobs in Lolland and in the region in general.

If it is decided politically to preserve the factory, the environmental measures planned so far, such as the noise level around the entire production area, be preserved to continue to ensure that residents and the cottage area are not exposed to noise during continued operation of the factory.

According to the original EIA approval of the project, Femern A/S is obliged to establish a compensation nature as a result of the project's environmental impacts including 58.4 ha of open nature and six water holes in the area around the element factory and on the new land areas.

Responses to the public consultation  on the environmental impact assessment can be submitted to the Swedish Transport Agency no later than 18 August 2023 to email vvm@trafikstyrelsen.dk,  cc  tmsj@trafikstyrelsen.dk  with reference to journal number 2022-096653.

Sund & Bælt will hold a citizens' meeting on Wednesday 9 August at 17 in the Bygherrecenteret in Rodbyhavn, where interested parties can obtain further information about the factory's preservation and the results of the report. Registration takes place via Sund & Bælt's website. Please state the number of participants. It will also be possible to participate online. This does not require registration.
