Pink Line success

06/07/2015

Last 11.06.2015 the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) in India completed the 1,565 m-long TBM tunnel at Lajpat Nagar from South Extension, part of the Pink Line or Line 7 from Majlis Park to Shiv Vihar in Delhi. The longest tunnelling drive of Phase 3 would be from Nizamuddin to Ashram on the same line with a length of 1,691 m.

The tunnel from South Extension to Lajpat Nagar is one of the twin tunnels being constructed for the up and down movement of trains. It has a 5.8 m-diameter for the movement of standard gauge trains.

The TBM crossed through the thickly populated areas of Kotla and Defence Colony, which required very thorough instrumentation and monitoring. The maximum depth of the tunnel in this drive was around 21 m in the Defence Colony Area.

The Lajpat Nagar Metro station is being developed into a major interchange hub where commuters will be able to change trains between the Faridabad-Kashmere Gate corridor (currently operational between Badarpur and ITO) and the Majlis Park-Shiv Vihar corridor of Phase 3. A bridge will connect the existing elevated station with the new underground facility.

The 58.6 km-long Majlis Park-Shiv Vihar Metro section has 38 stations. Some 19.12 km with 12 stations are underground. The line is targeted for completion in December, 2016. Click here and in/11 for tunnelbuilder archive. Visit http://www.delhimetrorail.com/. 28/15.
