On the 21/12/2020 the Provincial Development Working Party (PDWP)  approved the PC-I document and design of the 364-km motorway that will connect Peshawar with Dera Ismail Khan in Pakistan and referred it to Central Development Working Party (CDWP) for further procedural clearance and rationalization.  

The six-lane (3 for each direction) motorway project includes 19 interchanges, 2 tunnels at Dara Adam Khel (5.6 km) and Banda Daud Shah (1.6 km) and 113 major structures.  This section of the national motorway will start off from Chamkani area of Peshawar and pass-through Darra Adam Khel, Kohat, Hangu, Karak, Bannu and Lakki Marwat to finally end up at Dera Ismail Khan.   

According to the PC-I details, the motorway project will be completed within four years at an estimated cost of EUR1.40bn (PKR276 bn). The mega project will better connect the region with the rest of the province and will also integrate the merged districts with the main centres of the province.
