New milestones for Tideway

Connection Tunnel Excavated at Cremorne Wharf - Cremorne Wharf Depot became the latest site in the central section of the Tideway project to connect to the main 'super sewer' tunnel as excavation of a 147m-long tunnel has been completed.

The tunnel was excavated one metre at a time from the bottom of the site's 45m-deep shaft using a sprayed concrete lining (SCL) method. This technique involves spraying the excavated ground with concrete to form the primary lining of the tunnel.

When the new super sewer is complete, the tunnel will transport raw intercepted sewage into the Thames Tideway Tunnel, which runs from Acton Storm Tanks in West London to Abbey Mills Pumping Station in East London.

Heathwall Pumping Station - Secondary lining of the connection tunnel at Heathwall Pumping Station site for London's Super Sewer has now also been completed.
