New agreement for Lyon-Turin line

06/02/2012
On 30.01.2012 France and Italy signed a new intergovernmental agreement for the construction of the Lyon-Turin railway line for submission to the parliaments of both countries for ratification. The document specifies the final route of the project, particularly on the Italian side, endorsing the changes that were made; defines the construction phasing of the cross-border section, including a 57 km-long base tunnel between Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne in France and Susa in Italy; and identifies the governance arrangements of the project and, in particular, of the public promoter to succeed LTF and complete the cross-border section. Distribution of the EUR8.5 billion costs of the cross-border section will be France 42.1 percent, Italy 57.9 percent. Finally, the agreement sets out the modal principles for transalpine traffic.
