On the 11^th of September 2018 the Maharashtra government approved the implementation of two metro projects for Mumbai: the Dahisar-Mira Bhayander section for the metro Line 9, and the 3.17 km extension of Metro line 7 connecting Andheri to the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International (CSMI) Airport.

The estimated cost of both the projects is around EUR787.96 million. Mumbai Metropolitan Regional Development Authority (MMRDA) has been authorized to raise funds for both the routes. The extension of Metro 7 will have 2.11 km underground, while the 10.41 km Dahisar-Mira Bhayander section of the Metro 9 line will be elevated with 11 stations.
