TBM Joan - On the 20/10/20 TBM Joan began its 1 km journey from the Parkville Station site to the new State Library Station site of the Melbourne metro. Named after Victoria’s first female premier, Joan Kirner, TBM Joan was the first TBM launched on the Metro Tunnel Project, in September 2019.TBM Joan has already tunnelled 2.6km - first from Kensington to the new Arden Station in North Melbourne, and then to Parkville.
TBM Meg – has transferred through the Parkville station box. It will also be recommissioned and relaunched towards the CBD to dig the parallel tunnel in coming weeks.
After the two TBMs have broken through at State Library, they will continue digging under Swanston Street to link up with the new Town Hall Station.
TBMs Millie and Alice broke through into the retrieval shaft at the eastern tunnel entrance in South Yarra, completing their journey from the Anzac Station site to South Yarra.
The TBMs are now being disassembled inside the retrieval shaft in Osborne Street, South Yarra. The oversized TBM parts are being transported via trucks back to the Anzac Station site for reassembly and relaunch towards the CBD next year. Due to the size of these deliveries, trucks will need to travel outside normal hours.
TBM Millie’s cutterhead has been transported from South Yarra to the Anzac Station site, where it will soon be reassembled for Millie's journey towards the CBD next year.
