On 27.02.2012 the JV Maeda Corporation, China Railway Engineering Corporation (CREC) and SELI celebrated the breakthrough of the Tsuen Wan drainage tunnel in Hong Kong using a 7.72m-diameter, double shield, hard rock TBM designed and built by SELI. Severe geological conditions were encountered just a few metres from the end of the drive. The 5.1 km-long tunnel, which required detailed engineering and planning because of limited space within the congested urban environment, will divert water from hillside streams, reducing the risk of floods in the Tsuen Wan area.
