Gotthard base tunnel final breakthrough

Gotthard base tunnel final breakthroughOn 23.03.2011 at 12.20 pm miners excavated the last few metres of rock in the west tube of the Gotthard base tunnel between Faido and Sedrun. Coming some five months after the breakthrough in the east tube, this final thrust completes the job, with both single-track tubes complete over a continuous length of 57 km.
