Gotthard Base Tunnel test runs

From April, 2013 rail tracks in both tubes of Gotthard Base Tunnel, for 20 km between Erstfeld and Sedrun, will be fully installed. Work on the ballast-less track continues between Sedrun and Faido prior to installation of the catenary. Installation of the railway systems is presently 40 percent complete. Preparatory works for the 16 km-long test section in the west tube are ongoing in the west tube, between Faido and south portal Bodio. First test runs reaching 230 km/h will take place before the end of the year. The Gotthard Base Tunnel (GBT) will be operational from December, 2016. Visit www.alptransit.ch. 15/13.
