The Delhi Metro Rail Project marked another significant milestone as Afcons Infrastructure’s Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) Disha (1264B) achieved a breakthrough at the Tughlakabad Railway Colony station. This accomplishment falls under Package DC-07 of the Golden Line corridor in Delhi Metro Phase 4, which stretches 23.622 km from Aerocity to Tughlakabad, comprising 15 stations.
TBM Disha, an Earth Pressure Balance (EPB) machine, completed the excavation of a 0.96 km tunnel between Tughlakabad and Tughlakabad Railway Colony stations, contributing to the underground section of the Golden Line.
Afcons Infrastructure was awarded Package DC-07 by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) in January 2022 for a contract value of Rs. 1669.20 crore, with a project completion timeline of 42 months.
Scope of Work for Package DC-07:
This package includes the design and construction of twin tunnels from the eastern end of Sangam Vihar Station to the Sarita Vihar Depot, encompassing three underground stations:
- Maa Anandmayee Marg
- Tughlakabad Railway Colony
- Tughlakabad
Key elements of the package:
- Shield TBM tunneling for UP and Down lines
- Underground ramp and cut-and-cover tunnels near Sangam Vihar and Tughlakabad stations
- Retrieval and launching shafts along the Aerocity–Tughlakabad corridor
In a related achievement, another breakthrough under Package DC-07 was recorded in June 2025 at Tughlakabad Railway Colony station. For this task, a TBM launched from Maa Anandmayee Marg constructed a 0.792 km tunnel heading toward the Tughlakabad Railway Colony.
Additionally, to expedite work on Phase 4, DMRC has issued a Letter of Acceptance (LoA) to Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL) for the viaduct and platform construction on the Golden Line Extension, covering the Lajpat Nagar to Saket G Block section under Contract D2C-02.
