Dynamic Testing has now commenced for the Crossrail Project.
Testing is being carried out through the 21 km of new tunnels under central
London. Over the next 6 months all the railway’s systems will be tested to
ensure they are safe and reliable. Crossrail Ltd announced in August 2018 that
more time was needed to complete the section through central London. New
financing was agreed with the Government on 10 December 2018. The east-west
Elizabeth Line, originally due to open in December 2018, will now be fully
operational by the end of 2020.
When fully operational, the Crossrail/the Elizabeth line
will stretch more than 60 miles (96 km) from Reading and Heathrow in the west
through central tunnels across to Shenfield and Abbey Wood in the east. The new
railway will stop at 41 accessible stations, 10 newly built and 30 newly
upgraded, and is expected to serve around 200 million people each year.
