Marina Beach to Kodambakkam Flyover - The underground section of this corridor is split into two packages (UG-01 & UG-02) each of which contains 4 km of twin tunnels. In order to complete the approximately 16 km of tunnelling, four TBMs have been proposed to execute the entire tunnelling of approximately 16 km considering both Upline & Downline tunnels.
These TBMs manufactured by Herrenknecht will be used by CMRL’s contractor M/s ITD Cementation India Limited. On Saturday April 1st, 2023 the Factory Acceptance Test of the 2nd TBM which is the 1st for UG-02 package was successfully completed.
The TBM EPB is named S1074B and is 6.67 m in diameter, 110 m long and weighs approximately 700 t - will now be dismantled, packed and transported to its destination at Panagal Park Station, T Nagar. The construction of the TBM launching Shaft, which is a part of X-Over structure, is under progress at Panagal Park Station and is expected to be ready to take in and assemble the TBM in October 2023.
This TBM will be launched in Downline of this corridor-4 and will drive at a maximum depth of 29 m below ground level starting from Panagal Park through Nandanam and finally scheduled to arrive at Boat Club by September 2024.
