Gateway Development Commission (GDC) has awarded to Schiavone, Dragados Lane Joint Venture the EUR425.02 million (USD465.6 million) contract for construction of the twin-tube 1.55 km ( 5,100-feet) long Palisades tunnel. The tunnel has an inside diameter of 7.68 m (25.2 feet) and six cross passages. The tunnels will be excavated by 2 hard rock TBMs with excavation commencing at the tunnel portal at the Tonnelle Avenue construction site and mining eastward into the Hudson County Shaft.
