  Construction of 10,700 m-long Zamanti diversion tunnel under way by contractor Akpinar Group. As of 5th February, 2003 the total excavated length is 3,284 m (3,064 metres from the outlet and 220 m from the inlet). Horse shoe-shaped tunnel with excavation diameter of 4.5 m (21 sq m) and finished diameter 3.5 m. Geology mainly consists of agglomerates and agglomerates and basalts. First330 metres of the outlet section excavated with Paurat E134 roadheader and the remaining parts using drill/blast with Sandvik Tamrock jumbo, Volvo L-120 loader for loading and Volvo 5350 articulated dump trucks for hauling. Initial support by shotcrete and wire mesh Q188/188 and NPI 160 steel ribs (where necessary) and rock bolts (where necessary).
