AS Birkeland Entreprenørforretning from Dalsøyra secured the EUR34.80 million (NOK345.39 million) contract, excluding VAT, for the construction of approx. 3.7 km road, containing 1 km of tunnel for the E39 Lavik – Skei, stretch Myrmel - Lunde. Short stretches with a road worthy foot and cycle path, two bus stops, two junctions, as well as municipal and private connecting roads are to be established for the new E39. The entire road must have a new frost protection layer and a new superstructure. The tunnel is to be constructed with tunnel profile T 9.5 in tunnel class B. The tunnel will go under buildings in the hamlet of Myrmel, whilst the open air road will mainly follow the current line.
